Stacey Mondschein Katz is the founder of SMK Consulting Services, LLC. She has been helping healthcare professionals assess their privacy and security risks, prepare for and respond to regulatory reviews, train their workforce members, and seamlessly weave compliance processes into their day-to-day business practices for many years.

Stacey previously worked with Kozak & Gayer, P.A., a health law firm located in Augusta, Maine, where she handled a variety of patient care, regulatory and business matters. She also served as the Ethics and Compliance Officer of a multi-level Maine healthcare system and as counsel to an institutional review board, advising on the protection of human subjects in clinical research.

Before relocating to Maine, Stacey was part of the in-house counsel team for the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, where she focused on ensuring HIPAA compliance at 11 acute care hospitals, multiple clinics and skilled nursing facilities. She was a prosecutor for New York State’s physician licensing board, defended medical malpractice allegations against public hospitals and providers, and served as an Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn, New York. Stacey has extensive public speaking and training experience in both both university and professional settings.

Stacey is a graduate of Clark University (cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and NYU School of Law. She holds a graduate certificate in Bioethics and Medical Humanities from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center and NYU School of Nursing. To stay up-to-date in the ever-changing regulatory environment, she recently completed a health information technology program offered under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
